Designed and made in Denmark How it is made

Product

One specification, supplied unchanged.

The urn was designed by Claus Jacobsen, a shipbuilder by trade, and developed with Danish funeral directors, casket manufacturers and crematoria. It is injection moulded at SP Moulding A/S in Denmark, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, in a biopolymer developed for the purpose. Colour runs through the material rather than sitting on the surface, so handling in the funeral home does not leave white marks.

Sealed, opens without tools

The lid closes tight for transport and burial and lifts off by hand at the graveside. One product covers burial and scattering.

Two capacities, seven colours

5.0 litre standard adult and 3.5 litre, each available in all seven stock colours, with identical material and closure.

Supplied ready to hand over

Each urn is packed in a plain white carton with a carrying handle, suitable for courier shipment, hand carry and air travel.

Material & testing

What the laboratory measured.

Most biodegradable urns are made from PLA, which requires approximately 58 °C to break down. A grave holds 5–6 °C. A PLA urn buried in cool ground can therefore remain substantially intact. NatureUrn's material was developed for the temperature soil actually holds.

Disintegration under composting conditions, ISO 20200

Novamont S.p.A. Biodegradation Laboratory, Novara, Italy · Report RIS 377 Ed. 2 · 180-day study

0 d · 0%
45 d · 21.8%
90 d · 47.4%
180 d · 85.8%
205 d · 100%*

Mass loss measured over 180 days at 58 °C: 85.8%. The remaining residue disintegrated to sawdust under light finger pressure. *Linear extrapolation of the measured trend reaches 100% at 205 days under these test conditions. On that basis the laboratory concludes that in soil at 5–6 °C the urn is expected to be fully degraded within 7–9 years.

Composition

A bio-based, biodegradable biopolymer with wood fibre, developed by the company together with SP Moulding. No harmful chemicals or additives.

Permitted use

Burial in a grave, in natural and woodland burial grounds, and scattering. Nordmark Jacobsen is one of two urn providers certified by the Green Burial Council (North America).

Documentation

Documentation.

What a buyer requires before listing the product. Items marked on request are issued to named trade accounts.

In preparation

A companion animal range, in the same material.

The same biopolymer and the same closure principle in smaller capacities for companion animals. Pet cremation is the fastest-growing segment for many of the crematoria and funeral homes we supply, and it is generally served by urns of a lower standard than the same business would present to a human family.

Capacities, sizes and launch date are placeholders pending confirmation. Working assumption: two capacities in the region of 0.5–1.5 litre, the same seven colours, availability to be announced.

Trade questions

Questions buyers ask before listing.

Does an urn that degrades hold up in the funeral home and at the service?

Yes. It is a rigid injection-moulded urn with a sealed lid: it stacks on a shelf, withstands courier shipment, and can be carried by a family without special handling. Degradation begins in soil, not in storage.

Is the degradation claim independently tested?

Yes. Novamont's biodegradation laboratory in Novara, Italy tested disintegration to ISO 20200 over 180 days and measured 85.8% mass loss, the remainder disintegrating under light finger pressure. The complete report is available above.

How does this differ from a PLA urn?

PLA typically requires around 58 °C, which is industrial composting temperature. A grave holds 5–6 °C. NatureUrn's material was developed to degrade in cool soil, and the laboratory places full degradation there at 7–9 years.

Can it be used for scattering as well as burial?

Yes. The lid seals for burial and transport but lifts off by hand, so one product covers both applications — one line in your catalogue rather than two.

Is it accepted at natural and woodland burial grounds?

It is designed for it and holds a Green Burial Council approval in the United States. Individual sites set their own rules, so confirm locally; the test report is normally the only document an administrator requests.

Can a family travel by air with it?

Yes. It contains no metal or stone, is screenable by X-ray, and the white carton has a carrying handle suited to hand luggage.

How reliable is supply?

One tool, one specification, seven stock colours, injection moulded at a Danish facility certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. A repeat order matches the previous one.

Is private label or custom decoration available?

No. The urn is supplied in one specification and seven stock colours. This is deliberate: it keeps quality and lead times predictable for every account stocking it.

How do we obtain pricing and open an account?

Use the form below. You will receive volume-tiered wholesale pricing, the product data sheet and the test documentation in one reply — from Denmark for the EU/EEA and from Vancouver for North America.

For families

Ask your funeral director for NatureUrn.

NatureUrn is supplied through funeral homes rather than direct to families. If you would like this urn for a burial or a scattering, ask your funeral director to order it — most can do so within a few days. Tell us where you are and we will refer you to the nearest supplier.
